CFP: Living in the Mines: Mining and Working Worlds in the 15th-18th Centuries
Call for papers for the thematic issue “Living in the mines: mining and worlds of work in the XV-XVIII centuries” of Revista Mundos do Trabalho, volume 15 (2023).
Articles in portuguese, english, spanish until 30 August 2023.
Living in the mines: mining and worlds of work in the XV-XVIII centuries, the dossier organized by Crislayne Alfagali (PUC-Rio) and Fidel Rodríguez Velásquez (PUC-Rio) welcomes unpublished submissions in Portuguese, English or Spanish until August 30, 2023.
The call invites to reflect on the connections and comparisons between work in the mines in various regions of the globe and, at the same time, to bring to light the mine workers, their lives and daily relationships. A perspective that considers broader spatio-temporal processes, analyzing the intersections between political projects, networks of individuals, or life trajectories. By cutting across the XV-XVIII centuries, the issue seeks to overcome the apparent opposition between free and slave labor, turning to the experiences of enslaved, free and freed historical subjects.
