Summer school: Historical mining and new mining. From socioeconomic history to the 21th century

Summer course on “Minería histórica y nueva minería. De la historia socioeconómica al siglo XXI” (“Historical mining and new mining. From socioeconomic history to the 21th century”), La Rábida (Huelva, Spain), 20 – 23 July, 2021.

The Research Project “Historia social de la minería española contemporánea”, PGC2018-097817-B-C31 a 33, funded by the Spanish Government, and The International University of Andalucia (Spain), organise a summer course on “Minería histórica y nueva minería. De la historia socioeconómica al siglo XXI” (“Historical mining and new mining. From socioeconomic history to the 21th century”). It will be held in La Rábida (Huelva, Spain) from 20 to 23 July, 2021.
The course will take place face-to-face in Spanish language in an exceptional historical place, La Rábida, where took place one of the most significant events in the history of humanity: the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus. La Rábida is where Columbus stayed between 1491-92 waiting for financial backing from the Catholic Monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella to begin the voyage. There, students and researchers will be able to attend the confererences in the modern facilities of UNIA and visit interesting places related to the history of mining. Huelva is the province where historical Riotinto Mines where located.
UNIA offers grants covering the registration, accommodation and food allowance.
The course joins researchers in the spanish mining history to spread the advances in research made on the socioeconomical evolution of the spanish mining and its historical transformation. In the course collaborate the Spanish Labour History Network, the Spanish Society for the Defense of the Geological and Mining Heritage, the Geological and Mining Institute, the Industrial Heritage Foundation of Andalucia and the “Labour In Mining” Working Group, part of the European Labour History Network.
